I ran a damp fingertip around the upper seal before tightening4. But, heck, if you've read this far you already know all this stuff. I was unafraid.Well, when it arrived, I disassembled it completely, gave it a thorough cleaning. Keep it clean (especially under/around the gaskets), use finely ground coffee and don't pack it (or overfill it -- have the coffee level with the top of the basket), measure the water and milk carefully, and don't blast the heat. I bought my Mukka Express on eBay, used.
That's it.After brewing, rinse out the upper chamber. I reassembled it, added water, coffee, and milk, and brewed a perfect cup the very first time.My secrets. and when cool, pull the pressure valve off, unscrew the base and give the whole thing a going-over to clean it. Just go ahead and buy it. I put it on the smallest burner, at "7" (on a zero-to-ten scale)5. It also made about three of my cappuccino cups.
I received it in its original box, with all the parts/manual/DVD. None, really, but here's what I did:1. I had some left over. This isn't rocket surgery, folks. Of course I had read all the reviews here, and those at Williams-Sonoma, so I knew that lots of folks have had problems. In five minutes the button popped up, and shortly thereafter I was enjoying my cappuccino.I gave it the suggested extra minute after all the noise died down, and it may not be necessary -- my cup was plenty hot. I filled the coffee filter basket over the sink, away from the base and I leveled the grounds by tapping the side of the basket with my spoon3.
even soaking a few parts in a coffee cleaning solution. I have flat-top electric stove, but used the "gas" water amount2.
It's just not worth it. I couldn't even open it once because so much pressure had built up. This item does not work. I know people say, well you cannot fill it up to the line, but I tried many times, many different ways, and the product still leaked everywhere.
Good value. The manual falls a little short but once you get the process down this item produces first-rate cappuccino. I put off getting one for a year or two and now wish I'd bought one when it first was made available in the US.
Unusual customer service from a great company and product. Product support is outstanding - I received emails and phone calls to answer my questions. Also, replacement parts were quickly in the mail when a part was worn out. I love this cappuccino maker. Highly recommended. I've used mine for a few years almost everyday when I don't want to take time to use my pro machine. I purchased this one for my daughter & husband, since they love mine so much. It's easy to use, makes great cappuccino in a few minutes and is quick to clean up.
Sure enough - no leaking. I finally wondered if I was putting too many grounds in it. So the next time I put in 1/3 less. This was such a quick, fun way to make a cappuccino. I think some folks might make the mistake of thinking that you fill the grounds container full (like other automatic espresso/cappuccino machines). The first couple tries I had espresso leaking all over my stove. It comes with a DVD that gives you step by step instructions. I double-checked that gaskets to make sure I had no grounds on it before hand, so I was pretty sure it wasn't that.
